Henna tinting is a treatment that involves staining the skin and brow hair, but it’s different from the usual eyebrow dye you’d use during eyebrow tinting. It’s not a dye that has peroxide like regular brow tinting. It’s all natural, derived from plants and safe to use on the majority of skin types.
Some people are anxious over the permanency of brow tattooing, which is why henna tinting is a wonderful option to test the waters! It is a nice way to trial a shape and color then make up your mind if you want to work up to something more permanent. It also saves the time spent applying makeup in the mornings.
What do I do to prepare for my brow tint?
Please come to your appointment with clean brows. Meaning no makeup on or near the eyebrows. Please avoid wearing any foundation, concealer or skincare on or near the brow area. Please avoid using any exfoliating skincare products. Do not use any AHA’s, Retin A. Failure to do so may affect your results or cause an allergic reaction.
How long will my brow tint last?
Results vary based on the length, fullness, thickness and growth structure of your brow hair. Results vary depending on skin type. Those who have oily skin may fade faster than someone with dry skin. Any type of exfoliation will also affect the amount of time the tint will last. Skincare containing AHA’s or other chemical exfoliates may decrease the life of your tint. A gentle facial cleanser or eye makeup remover is recommended. The tint is designed to last up to 14 days on the skin and up to 6 weeks on the hair.
What is the brow tinting process?
Step 1: Initial consultation so we can understand your needs and give you the results you want. Step 2: Brow mapping so you’ll get the perfect coverage and shape. Step 3: Henna is mixed, gently applied to your skin and allowed to dry for 10-20 minutes. Step 4: Remove Henna tint mixture and style your brows. Step 5: You can relax because you now have beautiful dyed brows for up to 6 weeks! Please note that you may notice that immediately following your brow tint they may appear strikingly dark - this is normal! This is because your skin is also tinted during the application process. Please keep in mind this will fade after 1-3 days after you have had time to wash your face + natural oils have worked out some of the tint from the skin behind your brows.
I just had my brow tint done and I got them wet, accidentally messed them up. What should I do?
If you contact us within the first three days after your tint we should be able to fix them depending on the concern and we will schedule you to come in. Please note that NO REFUNDS are given on any services performed.
I have a wedding, special occasion, trip coming up and I have never had brow tinting when should I book?
If you have never had a brow tinting and have a special event, then we recommend booking 1-2 weeks before the event. If you book right before an event and are not completely satisfied with the result then we may not have the time available to squeeze you in at the last minute for a fix or change of service. If you are unsure on what service to choose whether a brow lamination, wax or tinting please text a photo of your brows to 515-207-2991 and a brow artist will be able to discuss what service is best for you.
How do I know if I am a good candidate for brow tinting?
Henna Brow Tint is for women with thin, sparse brows seeking instant fullness. In saying this, women with extremely sparse looking brows may not be suitable candidates for Henna Brow Tint. Those with healthy skin types, which are not too oily, also fit the criteria perfectly. Whether you’re after a very soft, natural looking brow or more of a bold, brow-tattoo effect, Henna Brow Tint can achieve these results. If you are unsure if you are a good candidate please text a photo of your brows to 515-207-2991
How often can I get my brow tint done?
You can receive the brow tinting service every 2-4 weeks or until the tint has faded.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, apply any makeup/skincare or visit a spa with brow tint?
Yes. You can shower, swim, exercise etc. and it will not affect your tint. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low. We do recommend however that you do not wash your brow area for at least 24 hours after your brow tint, avoiding any water, steam, heat or humidity. After 24 hours you are able to apply brow makeup and skincare. Please avoid any exfoliating skincare products, AHA’s and Retin A on the brows as it could affect the results of your tint.
What is the difference between Hybrid Brow Tint and Henna Brow Tint?
Hybrid Brow Tint is closest to Henna in terms of its intenseness and how long it lasts; Henna lasts up to 14 days on the skin and up to 4-6 weeks on the hair whereas Hybrid Brow Tint lasts up to 10 days on the skin and 7 weeks on the hair. The main benefit in Hybrid Brow Tint compared to Henna, is the convenience. You can achieve a natural looking brow after just 10 minutes of having the tint on. For a bolder brow (more of a brow-tattoo look), Hybrid Brow Tint can be left on for up to 12 minutes. Henna on the other hand, must stay on for 10-20 minutes, so there’s a bit of saved time there. If you have an allergy to Henna we recommend Hybrid Tint.
How do I take care of my brow tint?
During the initial 48 hours after your appointment
- Be gentle with your brows
- Do not touch with fingers
- Avoid steam, hot showers, facials, saunas, and swimming pools
- Avoid makeup, brow gel, face wash, shampoos and skincare products
After 24 hours of your appointment
If redness or irritation occurs, apply a cool damp cotton compress to the eye area. If symptoms persist for more than 24 hours, seek medical advice.
- The effects of the tint will start to diminish within 2-3 weeks as hair grows out and the tint color fades. Strong sunlight/UV light can make the tint color fade faster.
- A gentle facial cleanser or eye makeup remover is recommended.
- Try to use oil-free facial products around the brow area to prolong the tint color.
- Avoid exfoliating facial cleansers. Those containing AHA's or other chemical exfoliates may decrease the life of your tint
